FESIN defines its perspective on education based on the following principles

  • It provides education from an international perspective as well as a national one.
  • The Finnish Approach to Education is a source of inspiration in all educational processes. 
  • It sees the school not only as a ‘learning-teaching centre’ but also as a ‘life centre’.
  • It sees the learner as a ‘subject’ rather than an ‘object’ of education.
  • It builds its understanding of education on the concept of ‘learner’ rather than ‘student’.
  • It sees education not as ‘changing behaviour’ but as ‘revealing potential’.
  • Organises learning processes in accordance with the developmental level, learning speed and interests of the learner.
  • Gives special value to the learner’s abilities. It aims to reveal the dominant talents of each learner.
  • It conducts education with content and methods accepted by scientific and pedagogical principles.
  • It follows educational processes with data-based methods.
  • Recognises parents as indispensable stakeholders of education; takes their opinions into consideration; cooperates with them.
